Over the last few years, the ‘podcast’ has become a defining force in pop-culture and the arts. Embracing this trend, we teamed up with Best Practice and The Creator Class to host a night of discussion with the Broadbent Sisters & Lauren Mitchell. Exciting to say the least, this night also celebrated the completion and launch of our sixth issue.
Located at Free, this merged event started off with Joy and Rose Broadbent’s live podcast discussion. These Toronto based sisters are multi-medial artists, both of whom have broad (pun intended) bodies of work. To name off a few of their prior achievements, the sisters have shown at TRAFO Centre for the Contemporary Arts, Festival Du Nouveau Cinema, The Art Gallery of Ontario and The Gladstone Hotel.
The podcast not only articulated their working process, but encapsulated their ideas and diverse ways of creating art. Having a live podcast not only afforded the speakers a genuine platform to speak on, but it allowed the audience to be captivated in a very honest and real way. Additionally, having Lauren Mitchell mediate and lead the conversation produced an exceptional live experience.
Following the podcast, the party continued throughout the gallery space as we distributed the early release of RADmag Issue 06! Everyone who attended the podcast was offered a free copy of our latest issue, which featured amazing talent from Ryerson fashion, photo and design students. Our pop up exhibit included copies of Issue 6, in addition to new apparel from both us and Best Practice. Lucky for us, we also had incredible food and drink sponsors (Ace Hill Beer, North of Brooklyn Pizzeria & Hendricks Gin), which solidified the party atmosphere. Big thanks to our contributors, awesome DJ, sponsors and guests, you helped make this launch a spectacular and unforgettable night!
